A group is generic. A plantation is cultivated ground — from which things grow.
“Plantations” beats “Group.” Everyone has a group. A plantation is cultivated ground from which things grow — the parent is the soil; the companies are what's planted and tended. That metaphor is ours, and it maps exactly onto the mark.
So we shied away from a separate Makaya Group Limited. We pushed forward with our own philosophy — that one company can both hold the shares and trade, so Makaya Plantations Limited is the group while running its own operations. A third entity built only to be “the group” is cost and compliance for a job Plantations already does.
“Makaya Group” is used freely as the family descriptor; contracts are issued, and shares held, as Makaya Plantations Limited. The mark reads two ways at once — a living stem, and the holding structure: one root, branches multiplying.
The Architecture
Makaya Plantations Limited sits at the root: apex parent, holder of the shares, and a direct operator in its own right. Beneath it, each company is ring-fenced and run on its own terms.
One letter does a lot of work: the apex is Makaya Plantations (plural); the music imprint printed on releases is Makaya Plantation (singular), now produced by Makaya Studios Ltd. “Makaya Group” stays a brand descriptor, not a company — secured by CAC registration and trademark on “Makaya” and “Makaya Group.”

Beyond the wholly-owned companies, Makaya Plantations operates directly — spearheading projects such as Legacy City and Makaya Ascent, each ring-fenced as its own special-purpose vehicle with co-shareholders. These sit beside the operating companies, not on the brand's endorsement line.

3E Foundation is the giving side of Makaya Plantations Limited. As the principal beneficiary of Awesome Praise, it has channelled proceeds from concerts in London, Washington D.C., Johannesburg and Lagos into education, empowerment and community development across the nations that hosted them.
It is the reason every part of the estate is asked to earn its keep — so that there is always something to give. In 2027 — alongside Awesome Praise's 25th anniversary — 3E Foundation will relaunch.

Heritage
Makaya is one name above everything — held deliberately, protected on purpose. The estate was built by Olawale Opayinka, mathematician and actuary, whose structural logic runs through every company on it: hold the crown jewels cleanly, let each operation carry its own risk, and never let the brand outrun the substance beneath it.
